Monrovia,Liberia-Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tewh has assured that Civil Servants will begin taking pay by the 25 of March, following a difficult budget circumstances they encountered from past administration.
Minister Tweh said the new measure arrived as a mandate from President George Weah.
Recently, the House of representative forwarded the 2017/2018 recast national budget in the tune of 560. 3 million united Sates dollars, to the House of Senate for concurrence.
In a related development, Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel Tweh says it is unfortunate for the National Elections Commission to request for 3.9 million USD to conduct by-elections in Montserrado and Bong Counties.
Recently NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya announced that the electoral commission needs 3.9 million United States Dollars to fund the polls.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing Friday, Minister Tweh said NEC can conduct the two by-elections with 1.5 million United States Dollars instead of 3.9 million they are requesting.
According to him, such huge expensive cannot be placed on the government, given the poor state of the Liberian Economy.
He however noted that the Ministry of Finance is also considering reducing the budget of LISGIS for the sole purpose of the conduct of the National Census across the country.
