Monrovia,Liberia—Lawyers representing Varney Jarsay have rejected option for their client to seek medical treatment at the John F Kennedy Memorial Hospital on fear of being killed.
Jarsay, a former Student Leader is accused of raping a teenager in Monrovia.
Speaking to OK FM Wednesday, Counselor Arthur Johnson said his client had made him to understand that during his advocacy prior to being incarcerated, he spoke against JFK’s bad facilities and is afraid he could get killed if he seeks medical attention there.
Jarsay’s lawyers filed a motion to bail him out of prison due to medical reason.
Said Motion was first argued in December 2017 with medical report indicating his illness.
Government Lawyers however resisted the report saying it did not indicate the illness Jarsay was suffering from.
Government lawyers said they needed another separate report to validate the claim that Jarsey is ill and cannot seek medical attention in Liberia.
Meanwhile, Criminal Court E Judge Serena Garlawolo has reserved ruling pending notice of assignment.
Jarsey, 32, was indicted by the Grand Jurors of Montserrado County for reportedly raping a 15-year-old under loud music upon her return with a loaf of bread he had sent her to buy for him.
The indictment said he (Jarsey) intentionally left his living room where he was when he sent the victim and went into his room awaiting her to bring the bread.
The 15-year-old told Police investigators that when she entered Jarsey’s room, he immediately locked the door pushed her onto his bed and forcibly penetrated her, while the music was intentionally turned up load so that no one could hear her shout or call for help.
But he told News Men that though he met the complainant on the day of the incident but she was along with a male friend and he only spoke briefly with the male, and they both left together.
“Some international guests came; they felt bad of the justice system after they followed the trend for a rape suspect to be released.”
“You see, me I am regularly sick, sometimes I visit this clinic three to four times a week, but what to do, I must survive the struggle. I have faced several threats, though this is huge, but I will survive.”
Currently at the Criminal Court “E”, Judge Serena Garlawolu is yet to rule in a motion to admit to bail on medical reason that was filed by lawyers representing Jarsey.
