Monrovia,Liberia:House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers has accused former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of denying members of the 53rd Legislature their just benefits.

In January, some members of the House of Representatives were seen agitating in plenary seeking clarification into the delay of their benefits.

Dr. Chambers in an interview with Legislative reporters Thursday said Madam Sirleaf in a text message to then Speaker Emmanuel Nuquay, indicated the lawmakers would not get their benefits until they passed on key bills she submitted during the House’s extra sittings.

OK FM is yet to independently confirm this claim.

The Speaker said it was unfortunate for the Ministry of Finance to have honored a request by the then President to deny the lawmakers their benefits.

Chambers, who just returned from a foreign trip, further revealed that the CDC led government has begun payment of the arrears in question.
