2018 WAFU U-20 Competition kicks off in Liberia

Monrovia-The 2018 West African Football Union (WAFU-U 20) competition has gotten underway at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City.

The competition is expected to feature seven West African Countries in a heated Soccer development.

Host Liberia will take on Ivory Coast at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City on tomorrow.

Countries that are to feature in the eight nations WAFU-U-20 Tournament have arrived in Liberia  and are being hosted at separate Hotels in Monrovia.

A 25 member Sierra Leone U-20 Football delegation arrived Sunday afternoon ahead of the kickoff of the tournament.

Guinea Bissau also arrived with a 25 member strong U-20 football delegation for the WAFU football festivities in Liberia.

The two countries (Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau) are in Group A with host Liberia. The Group A countries will be joined by Ivory Coast who is replacing Cape Verde. Ivory Coast was invited after Cape Verde withdrew from the tournament.

The national Under-20 team of Guinea will fly in late Sunday with a 25 member delegation.

The rest of the countries will jet into Liberia on Monday and countries expected are Senegal, Ivory Coast, Mali and the Gambia.

The opening match on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 will see host Liberia meeting Ivory Coast at the SKD Sports Complex. The late game on Tuesday will be the Group A opener between Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau.

Group B action will begin on Wednesday with Senegal meeting Mali in game one.
