Increase Malaria cases in Liberia catches U.S’ Gov’t attention”

Monrovia-United States Ambassador accredited to Liberia has alarmed over the increase of malaria cases in southeastern Liberia.

Ambassador Christine Elders named Grand Kru, River Gee and Maryland as counties highly hit.

Ambassador Elders revealed that the malaria increase in the three southeastern counties is six times higher than in Monrovia.

She challenged the Liberian government to roll up efforts aimed at ending malaria in the country.

The US Ambassador noted that malaria over the years has greatly affected Liberia’s population growth.

Ambassador Elders added that out of Liberia’s estimated four million a little over a million are affected each year from malaria.

She made the remarks during the official celebration of World Malaria Day ahead of the distribution of insecticidal mosquito nets across the country beginning Thursday.
