The European Union(EU) has pledged an initial contribution of Euros 27 million direct budget support towards Liberia’s 2018/2019 fiscal year.
It followed the signing of a New Economic Cooperation agreement with the EU, under the theme: “Moving Liberia Forward”, in Brussels, Belgium, at the European Union Development Days Summit.
The instrument which was signed by both Finance Minister Samuel Tweh and EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica is the first of many contributions to be made to Liberia.
Following the signing of the agreement, a release from Brussels quotes President Weah as assuring the EU and all other international partners that every dime of their money invested in Liberia will be accounted for and that the projects will deliver to the benefit of the Liberian people.
The signing of the new Economic Cooperation Agreement is a direct dividend of President Weah’s trip to the European Union while participating in this year’s European Development Days (EDD) Summit.
The Agreement notes that the funds will be made available effective within the shortest possible time as of the signing; and it is the first of many contributions to be made to Liberia under the “Moving Liberia Forward Europe-Liberia Partnership Agreement”.
Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, while the EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica signed on behalf of the European Union.
The EU is one of Liberia’s dependable partners that have over the years made enormous contributions toward peace, security and the overall development and reconstruction of the country.
