Justice Banks to retire from Supreme Court after almost a decade of service

Monrovia-The Chief Justice of Liberia has officially announced the retirement of Associate Justice Philip Banks from service.

According to Article 72 (b) of the Liberia Constitution, Chief Justice, Associate Justices and Judges of the lower Courts are to be retired at age seventy.

According to an official release from the Judiciary, Associate Justice Banks’ retirement will take effect in August this year after he shall have completed the mandate assigned him by the Supreme Court.

As Chair of the Judiciary Inquiry Commission, he is responsible to investigate complaint against Judges and Magistrates of the Judiciary.

The release noted that Justice Banks will hand down the Supreme Court opinion at the close of the March term of Court.

Chief Justice Korkpor  also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Associate Justice Banks for his dedication, commitment and immeasurable service  to the Judiciary branch of Government in particular, and the Republic of Liberia, during his tenure on the Supreme Court Bench as Associate Justice.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, on behalf of the Associates Justices, Judges and the entire Judiciary Branch of Government, wishes Justice Phillips A.Z. Banks, III, very happy and blissful 70th Birthday and prays for God’s continuous blessings upon his life and future endeavors.

Justice Banks was appointed and confirmed to the Supreme Court Bench as Associate Justice in 2010.
