Government’s Pro-Poor Rice on Sale at High Price in Nimba County

MONROVIA: Reports say several business houses in Nimba County are selling what is known as government’s pro-poor rice for 3,500 Liberian dollars rather than the price of 10 United States dollars.

Report by Franklin Doloque-OK FM Nimba reporter

In December 2018, President George Weah launched the pro-poor rice in the country, with a mandate that a bag of the commodity be sold for 10 United States dollars.

But according to the report, major business centers in Ganta city have increased the price of the pro-poor rice for reasons best known to them.

Our Correspondent, Franklyn Doloquee who toured some business centers in Ganta also indicated that huge consignments of the pro-poor rice are transported out of the country through the Ganta-Guinean border on a daily basis.

Our Correspondent said Nimba County Commerce Inspector, Nancy Korqueh has reneged to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, several consumers in Nimba County are expressing grave concern over the increase in price of the rice and other commodities believed to be expired on the Liberian Market.
