Legislative Building in Darkness for Nearly One Month

OK FM has observed that the original buildings accommodating members of the Liberian Legislature have been out of electricity for close to a month now.

The original Liberian Senate and House of Representatives buildings are hosting about fifty members of the Legislature.

An OK FM investigation has established that the lack of electricity is seriously impeding normal working activities for lawmakers and their staffers.

The annexes constructed by the Chinese government during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, are the ones receiving electricity at the moment.

Some members of the National Legislature along with their personal staffers have been seen sitting in darkness during regular working hours.

The old or original offices are directly connected to the Liberia Electricity Corporation grid, but OK FM understands that there has been a disconnection.

It is not clear what caused the disconnection.

OK FM investigation reveals that a generator provided by the Chinese government is the only source of power for the new annexes generally referred to by staffers as the “China Buildings”.

Currently, the offices of the Deputy Speaker, Chairpersons on Executive; Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning; Rules, Order and Administration; and Foreign Affairs, have been in the dark for Close to a month.
