China Union is accused of conspiring with former Finance Minister

STALLS DEVELOPMENT IN BONG COUNTY, USING THE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT FUND

Monrovia, Liberia – Senator Prince Moye, the chair of the Bong County Legislative Caucus, has accused the China Union of working with former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah to hinder the county’s development through manipulation of the social development budget.

The Caucus Chair informed legislative reporters at a significant press conference on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his Capitol Building Office, that the China Union has been negotiating the county’s development push behind closed doors in recent years, which is detrimental to the people.

Under former Minister Tweah’s leadership, the major concession company had negotiated to reduce its social contribution to Bong County. He emphasized that the concession is legally binding and that, in his capacity as chair, any subsequent negotiations will be thoroughly reviewed.

Additionally, Senator Moye stated that the caucus has been extremely concerned about the slow pace of the business’s operations in relation to MNG Gold Liberia, a Turkish mining company that operates in Bong County.

He continued by revealing that a constituency representative had recently been forcibly removed from the ArcelorMittal Liberia Board, a move he claimed violated the county’s sole representative rights.

Senator Prince Moye further claimed that the county has not used the development grant within the specified period because it has been overwhelmed with legal and audit issues for the past two years.
