The government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has recognized former player Thomas Kojo as head coach of Lone Star.
There was public concern as to who is in charge of the national team as head coach ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March of next month.
The question that was posted to the Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Cole Bangalu on Saturday, February 15, 2025, edition of the OK Sports Desk weekend edition via mobile.
The MYS Minister confirmed that Thomas Kojo is still the stand-in coach of the Lone Star since the departure of former coach Mario Marinica.
”What I do know is Thomas Kojo is the stand-in coach since Mario Marinica’s departure.”.
Responding to the LFA Media Officer, Anthony Kokoi’s statement on a local radio station stating that Thomas Kojo’s time as stand-in coach has expired, the MYS Minister quizzed who will the public believe, the media officer or a minister.
“Is left with you regarding who to believe, but I am saying, as far as I am concerned, Thomas Kojo is still in charge of the national team, he narrated”.
However, the Liberians are 3rd in the group with 7-points from four matches and are a point behind 2nd place Namibia and 3-points adrift of leaders, Tunisia who are on 10 points.
The extended 48-nation tournament is poised to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Out of 48 nations: Africa has nine slots, with 6 slots for North America, 16 for Europe, 6 for South America, 1 for Oceania, and 2 additional teams will be decided by intercontinental playoffs.
The Liberian nation’s pride and joy will play Group C favorites Tunisia on March 17 before taking on Sao Tome and Principe on March 24.
