The Liberia Taekwondo Federation says it is continuing its rebranding process with the launch of a nationwide youth recruitment program targeting athletes between the ages of 13 and 15 on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
According to the Federation, this initiative will span a period of three years, during which selected athletes will receive professional training at least two to three times per week.
The training will be conducted by certified coaches and trainers from Liberia, across Africa, and potentially from around the world.
Speaking on the importance of the program, the president of the Liberia Taekwondo Federation—a former national athlete, Mater Junior Pewee Russian—emphasized that the goal is to align Liberia with modern competitive standards in taekwondo.

He pointed out that many of the country’s current athletes are aging or face significant family responsibilities, limiting their performance at the international level.
“Our objective is to catch up with the modern-day realities of taekwondo—in terms of competition techniques and evolving rules. We believe training young athletes now is the key to future success,” the Federation President stated.
The Federation is calling on the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Liberia National Olympic Committee, and the general public for support in ensuring the successful implementation of the program.
“If we can gather and train these young athletes consistently over the next three years, I can promise the people of this country that we will shine at any international competition—even bring home a gold medal for our beloved country,” the president added.
While the program was initially scheduled to begin on July 15, 2025, its launch has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances.
However, the Federation assures the public that preparations are well underway and a new launch date will be announced soon.
