Liberia to Debut at 2025 Confederation of Africa Pickleball Championship

Two athletes and a coach will represent Liberia at the 2025 Confederation of Africa Pickleball Championship, scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, from November 27–30, 2025. This marks Liberia’s inaugural participation in the continental event since the sport was introduced in the country.

Team Liberia
The delegation includes: Emmanuel Chayee – Athlete, Perry Johnson – Athlete, and Norris Ben – National Team Coach.
The team is expected to depart Liberia on November 24 to finalize preparations ahead of the tournament.

Background on Pickleball in Liberia
Pickleball, a growing international paddle sport, combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly lower net, using solid paddles to strike a perforated plastic ball. Players aim to hit the ball over the net in a manner that prevents opponents from returning it legally.
The sport was introduced in Liberia in 2024, and the country held its first competitive selection event in 2025 year to identify the athletes now chosen to represent the nation.

A Tool for Youth Development
According to local sports authorities, the inclusion of pickleball among Liberia’s sporting disciplines is part of a broader effort to inspire children and youth to engage in constructive activities.

By offering more options in sports, officials hope to reduce young people’s exposure to harmful substances and provide positive pathways for personal development.

A Promising Beginning
Liberia’s participation in the 2025 Championship not only highlights the country’s growing interest in nontraditional sports but also represents an important step toward establishing pickleball as a recognized national discipline.

The appearance of Team Liberia on the continental stage is expected to generate further enthusiasm and investment in the sport at home.
