Monrovia – Stages Queens President Chris Weah, Sr. has reaffirmed his candidacy for the presidency of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) in the upcoming 2026 elections.

In his Facebook post recently, the football enthusiast highlighted that his decision to contest stems from unwavering commitment to the advancement of Liberian football, adding that he has a good record of dedication to its growth even during the most challenging times.

Mr. Weah has outlined five cardinal pillars as a way forward to work and improve football in Liberia.

According to him, he over the years provided significant financial and material contributions to various sectors of Liberian football during the challenging periods of the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic and played a critical role in assisting Liberian athletes stranded in Laos, ensuring their safe return home; he is the initiator of the “Bility Must Go” campaign and championed reforms for better leadership and governance within football administration.

He also outlined Grassroots Football Development on the grounds that he has continuously supported grassroots football initiatives, fostering the growth of young talents across the nation.

The Stages Queens President wants a long-term naturalization program, which he has drafted and propagated to enhance the competitiveness of all national teams.

“In recent months, my colleague Mr. Anthony Cassell Kouh and I collaborated with stakeholders to establish a united front against the re-election of Mr. Mustapha Raji, who has won two elections unopposed and is seeking an unprecedented third term. This collaboration initially positioned me as a candidate for the 1st Vice President”.

“However, it has become clear that the current administration is using unauthorized and unconstitutional methods to undermine Mr. Kouh’s candidacy and limit electoral competition. This leaves the LFA at risk of another uncontested election, a scenario I cannot support, he said”.

Commenting on his withdrawal, he narrated that his decision to withdraw from the collaboration stems from a desire to ensure that the 2026 election is competitive and democratic, denying Mr. Raji the opportunity to contest unopposed.

“While I respect my colleagues’ efforts, I firmly believe that the best path forward is to independently challenge this status quo to guarantee a fair election process, he said”.

Chris also said they must acknowledge the legal challenges that Mr. Kouh’s candidacy faces, adding that it is imperative that they remain steadfast and ready to confront these challenges to uphold the principles of democracy and fairness.

Regarding strategic vision, he highlighted that their approach is not one of opposition for opposition’s sake, but rather a strategic alignment of independent candidates to ensure a democratic election in 2026.

“Regardless of the LFA’s tactics, our collective focus will remain on fostering transparency, accountability, and progress in Liberian football.”

“We embark on this journey, I seek your unwavering support and partnership. Together, we can usher in a new era for the Liberia Football Association—one rooted in fairness, development, and unity, the Stages Queens President acknowledged”.

Monrovia, Liberia – A coaching vacancy has been declared by the Liberia Football Association for the men’s senior national team, the Lone Star.
According to the January 3, 2023, LFA release, the post is open until January 15, 2024.

On December 30, 2023, Coach Ansu Keita was fired, which led to the creation of the position. Sporting Just Cause is how the LFA described the ruling. Coach Ansu Keita took charge of Liberia for seven games; he won six, drew one, and was the worst national team coach in recent memory.

Football fans protested in various ways about Coach Keita’s poor performance as head coach of the Lonestar following the team’s 1-0 losses against Malawi and Equatorial Guinea in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the SKD before the end of 2023.

MONROVIA: The “Lone Star” of Liberia has moved to second place in Group G of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier following an emphatic 1-0 win over the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Sunday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports (SKD).

As usual it was “Golden Boy” William Jebor who netted the lone and important goal that saw the red, white and blue outfit secured seventh points from five matches in a quest to reach Cameroon 2019.

Thomas Kojo’s men started on a slow pace and failed to create any clear-cut scoring chance in the first half of the match.

The second half became inspiring with Anthony Laffor almost setting the SKD at blaze, but the Mamelodi Sundown’s attacker lifted the ball off target after a blunder from goalkeeper Sibanda of Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean stopper came out to balloon the ball, but it was blocked by Jebor and Laffor just needed to place it in the empty net, but the ball flew over the bar to the dismay of the Lone Star supporters.

Zimbabwe who needed just a point in the game to secure a place at next year Africa Cup of Nation came close on two occasions in the second half but strikers Tino Kadewere and Khama Billiat failed to make use of the opportunity.

With lack of creativity in the Lone Star attack, Coach Thomas Kojo brought on Sparta Moscow’s Sylvanus Nimely for Kpah Sherman and the former Monrovia Club Breweries winger collaborated well with Tonia Tisdell to create the goal for Liberia.

Nimely tactically broke the Zimbabwean defense with a clinical pass for Tisdell and the Turkish-based attacker superbly rolled the ball through and Jebor was on time to put it at the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Ashley Williams who turned 18 last week earned his first clean sheet, while Barrack Young Controller (BYC) Eugene Swen made his debut as he came on for Anthony Laffor. Newcastle United Mohammed Sangare has to still wait for his debut as he was an unused substitute in the paring.

Liberia moved second in the Zone with seven points, after DR Congo held Congo Brazzaville to a 1-1 draw in Brazzaville also on Sunday.

The last round of matches in the Group will be played in March 2019 and Liberia will need just a point away to Democratic Republic of Congo to go through.
