Speaking minutes after their election, LINSU new President assured the students of Liberia that he will provide the needed leadership for the forward march of the union.
Mohammed Ghandi Kamara, who replaces former President Varney Jersey, noted that his election is a beginning of a new dawn in the student community.
He promised to uphold the by-laws and constitution of the Liberia National Student Union.
“As leaders of LINSU, we hope to improve the current state of this Institution in bringing reform with an open administration where every Liberian student have access and can equally contribute to its growth and development. But, while steer the affairs as front-liners, it is also important that you as members jointly work with us for the forward match of the noble student body,” he said.
In brief remark the LINSU outgoing President Varney Jersey promised to work with the new leadership while expressing explicit confidence in them.
“This is our greatest legacy in life, that we are transitioning a student movement to men and women, who we feel have the necessary understanding to move the student movement forward. And for some of us, we will not sit back; we will always be around when ever we are called upon.”
Meanwhile Acting Youth and Sport Minister Peter Bemah has rubbished report of prohibition on the LINSU election.
He said the government of Liberia recognizes the current LINSU leadership headed by Mohammed Ghandi Kamara pledging to work with them.
“From the ministry of youth and sports, we want to admonish you all to remain peaceful and avoid violent acts would impede rapid development within the Union. The Liberian Government through the Ministry of youth remain committed to supporting this new leadership, and hope that you grow to meet the needs of the Liberian students,” the acting sports minister said.
Several members who went unopposed during the Liberia National Student Union Elections were declared winners despite an injunction being placed on the process by the court on the order of aggrieved students whose entries were denied from participation.
Those who went unopposed were elected on white ballot at the University of Liberia Fendell Campus.
They are Mohammed Kamara-President, Vick June Wutoh-Vice President for International Affairs, Daniel Wamah-Vice President for National Affairs, Isaac Muapoh-Secretary General and Jah Beyan-Financial Secretary.
