Speaking in an interview  in Monrovia Former Vice President Boakai said the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court could prosecute people who committed crimes against Liberians.

He mentioned that impunity gives rise for others to orchestrate similar act and at such people must account for their actions.

According to him, the court system will give people the opportunity to testify against claims leveled on them.

“My intention for this Country was that we would go the way of South Africans where truth and reconciliation was the centered of their hearts. but I have come to learn that when people do harm and refuse to repent, their followers will imitate them.

I think a War crime court will be able to make people  account for unlawful or cruel actions. So, if the Liberian people want a war crime court for that, I will support it.”

Despite Ambassador Boakai’s support, there has been many calls from civil society organizations, including other political institutions for the establishment of economic crimes court in the Country.

As a result, the country has experienced several peaceful matches in Monrovia and elsewhere in Liberia.
