Monrovia, Liberia – The Supreme Court of Liberia has withheld the Bill of Information filed by Team Julius Kanubah in the 2022 Press Union of Liberia Elections held in Gbarnga, Bong County.
The Court noted that it was an error on the part of Chambers Justice Joseph Nagbe, who declined to issue a remedial Writ; instead, he issued an order affecting the Lower Court’s decision, and as such, the Bill of Information lied in such a case.
It also reiterates that a Bill of information will lie to prevent a Judge or Judicial officer who attempts to improperly execute the High Court Mandate, which prevents anyone from interfering with the Judgment and Mandate of the Supreme Court.
However, the High Court has asked the Clerk to send a mandate to the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Bong County, instructing the court to resume jurisdiction over the PUL’s election matter.
The membership of the Press Union of Liberia is reported to have participated in an election process last year (2022) to select a new executive to oversee the union’s operations in the upcoming years. The election was stopped from proceeding due to alleged electoral fraud. Team Julius called for another round of voting since the election was skewed.
