Monrovia, Liberia – Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world, as most countries around the world including African nations, have taken advantage of developing it at the highest level.
But the case of Liberia is different, as the sport continues to struggle due to no money scenarios. One of the major issues hindering the growth of the sport in recent years is the prolonged leadership crisis that kept the sport quiet for a while.
While certain members have contributed to the sport’s transformation, the Liberia Tennis Federation has not held a league or held regular events for almost a decade.
Although some players have dedicated their lives to the game, lack of support has also played a significant role in keeping tennis alive over the years.
Chief Executive Officer of Youth for Tennis Alfred Kandakai is among those who think that individual members’ activities are crucial to rebranding the sport in Liberia.
Mr. Kandakai is an internationally certified tennis coach from Valencia, Spain. He earlier launched his academy with over two hundred children, both male and female
He told this medium on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Paynesville that his goal is to produce future talents for the national team to begin representing Liberia in international competitions. He said that after the launch, he found roughly sixty kids that he could teach to be better players in the future.
“I must be thankful to (PTR) Professional Tennis Registrar Foundation, based in the US, for the support given to me.”
In recent competitions, Coach Alfred has also emphasized the continuous influence his students have had. He claimed that it was fantastic that athletes from his academy had just triumphed in every national competition.
“I would like to bring all of my children here to this National Tennis Court every day for training, but I don’t have enough transportation for them all. This is a very helpful course, particularly for the girls.
