President Weah Blames 2023 Defeat to Public Officials and CDC Acute Failure

Monrovia, Liberia – President George Weah has notified the public that he conceded defeat to Joseph Boakai, the president-elect of the Unity Party, as a result of government officials not wanting to put in the necessary effort and persuade Liberians, and the Coalition for Democratic Change not giving the electoral process their full attention, which led to their own defeat prior to the election.

Speaking to a large crowd at his Forkayklon Church on Sunday, November 26, 2023, in Payneville, President Weah said he understood his party’s setback stemmed from their inability to act morally in the electoral process, something he said caused the CDC’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election. George Weah CDC was defeated to Boakai UP with a vote of
814,481 or 50.64%, and CDC 793,914 or 49.36%.

According to the departing leader of Liberia, there is still division among government officials, particularly in the CDC. He claimed that several of his bureaucrats lacked generosity and shied away from genuine interactions with their own populace. President Weah once bemoaned his official inability to assist common people, particularly those in need of basic necessities, calling it “evil.”

The majority of Liberians rejected the CDC government not because of Weah’s shortcomings but rather because his officials did not act in the best interests of the people of Liberia. The people said President Weah did not reprimand these officials because he considers the majority of them to be his buddies, sons, and daughters, causing their defeat in the general and presidential elections.
