The groups in a discussion with committee members called on the Legislature not to give credence for the establishment of the War and Economic Crime Court in Liberia.

Daniel Bestman and Moses Kesselly representing the two groups against the establishment of the court in the country told legislators that Liberia must trek on the path to peace and genuine reconciliation.

According to them, those who are calling for the establishment of the court should have done that in previous administration instead of President George’s government adding that their quest is not timely for the country.

Bestman and Kesselly pointed out that Liberia has much catching issues to discuss than the establishment of the court in Liberia.

Following the two group’s discussion against the establishment of the court in Liberia, another group under the nomenclature Citizen Action in support of the court also held discussion with House’s committee on claims and petition in the early part of September this year.

Officials of the group in attendance were Chairman, Fubbi F. A. Henries, Franklin K. Wesseh, Co-Chair and Richard D. W. Allen as well as Hassan Billity of the Global Justice and Research Project.

They argued that those who perpetrated heinous crimes and atrocities must not be set free from their actions.

According to them, President George Weah is innocence of war crimes and at such he could be the best person to implement the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

Meanwhile the House’s Committee Chair on Claims and Petition Representative Rustolyn Dennis told the groups that the engagement with them was to ascertain their views on the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia.

According to Rep, Dennis, those for and against the establishment of the court regarding their comments made will be highlighted and final report taken to plenary for relevant action.

In furtherance, those holding discussions with different grouping at the House of Representative as mandated by the Speaker of the House of Representative include included Dorwohn Twain Gleekia (Nimba District 6), Chairman on Peace, Religion and National Reconciliation, Vincent S. Willie (Grand Bassa Dist. #4), Thebelrosa S. Tarponweh, (Margibi Dist. 1), among others.
