President Boakai Declares Assets at LACC

RE-EMPHASISES COMMITMENT TO TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Monrovia, Liberia – Barely Two weeks after assuming office President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., has exercise his duty as per the 1986 constitution of Liberia to declare his assets.

The President on Thursday February 8, 2024 at the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) head office Congo Town publicly declear his assets re-emphasizing his commitment to transparency and accountability.

Speaking to the press in an interview, President Boakai said, if the country is to succeed, the right thing must be done through transparency.

“As leaders, we have a challenge in this country because we need to lead by example. I declared my assets today because I think that’s the right thing to do. We must act morally and responsibly if we hope to advance, flourish, and leave this nation as a future for the next generation.”

“In order for them to evaluate me in the future, I therefore disclose my assets to ensure that they are aware of what I am bringing to the table. Thus, in fulfilling my pledge, this is what I’ve done.”

Section 10.1 of Liberia’s 2014 Code of Conduct, as modified, and Chapter 11, Article 90 of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia establish the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which governs the declaration of assets by all public officials in that country.

The code was incorporated into the Constitution primarily to guard against official misconduct and corruption, as well as to guarantee openness among public servants.
