Monrovia, Liberia – The Unity Party government has been cautioned by Grand Gedeh County Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely not to establish the War and Economic Crimes Court and to instead concentrate on saving the populace.
Speaking at a press conference on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, Senator Nimely emphasized that President Joseph Boakai had pledged to the Liberians that he would bring about change through the Rescue Mission.
He underlined that if the government creates the WECC in the first two to three months in order to target specific people, then all of the President’s agenda items will be totally undercut.
Two day ago, more than forty members of the House of Representatives approved a resolution calling for the creation of the court, which was then forwarded to the Liberian Senate for approval. This legislator’s stance follows suit.
Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely urged President Joseph Boakai to recall Alex Chester Grant, the Grand Gedeh County superintendent-designate.
He said that the locals have accused Mr. Grant of abducting their son, whose body has not yet been discovered in the county, and that they have subsequently stopped the nominee from going into particular areas of the county.
He revealed that the Committee on Internal Affairs had received a request to postpone Mr. Grant’s hearing until after the public has been consulted, stating that the public’s wishes are his own.
