Rep. Gwion Reported Dead

Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County – Erol Madison Gwion, the representative for Grand Gedeh District #1, reportedly passed away, according to information obtained by our reporter. According to our sources, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, early in the morning, Rep. Gwion departed from this life after battling a sickness in Accra, Ghana.

The election of Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pannue in the 2020 special senatorial election prompted a by-election, which resulted in the first election of the Tchien district representative. In the most recent election, held on October 10, 2023, Representative Gwion was re-elected to serve his constituents for another six-year term until he passed away.

Although there were speculations on social media earlier this month that the politician had passed away, the director of the House of Representatives Press Bureau emphasised that the lawmaker was ill.

The late Representative Gwion’s official certification, along with others, by the National Elections Commission is set for December 8, 2023.

Tensions have increased in Zwedru following the death of Representative Erol Madison Gwion, as a vengeful mob sets fire to the Traditional Council offices in the city. According to reports from the county, some of the late lawmaker’s supporters are blaming his sister, Beatrice Gwion, for his demise.

She is believed to be a member of the traditional council of Grand Gedeh County. Supporters of the late politician claimed that his sister showered him with powder at his victory celebration following his reelection as representative in the election on October 10, 2023, as a symbol of success. According to our correspondent, the late representative’s supporters told him that the late lawmaker became ill after the winning episode, which ultimately resulted in his death.

Along similar lines, the enraged mob also set onto Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue’s residence, charging him with involvement in the late lawmaker’s demise. Serious damage was done to the Grand Gedeh senator’s residence.

It’s reported that the late Gwion’s passing had a detrimental effect on the county’s economy, causing local businesses and marketplaces to close. Schools have closed, and a large number of supporters of the late Representative Gwion are gathered in the streets.
