Monrovia, Liberia – The Republic of Liberia’s president-elect, Joseph N. Boakai, has announced that his government will conduct an audit of President George Manneh Weah’s departing administration and make the audit reports available to the public.
Speaking to the Voice of America (VOA) on Thursday, December 21, 2023, Amb. Boakai noted that the motive behind the audit is to inform Liberians about the stewardship of the CDC government and to ensure that the new administration will govern the country with accountability.
The former vice president asserted that the system will be audited by international partners and credible institutions. It is well known that the Unity Party, led by President-elect Boakai, regularly levelled accusations of misconduct in office, corruption, and other offences against the Weah administrator.
The UP campaigned on a platform of auditing the Weah administration to ensure adequate accountability and save Liberia’s future. Following their defeat by the CDC in 2017, the UP was able to be re-elected by the electorate’s favourable reception of such messages.
