CHINESE AMBASSADOR INTRODUCED NEW MEDICAL TEAM TO HEADS OF JFK
Monrovia, Liberia – The John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center and the cardiology program have received medical supplies worth US$100,000 from the People’s Republic of China.
A new medical team was also sent to Liberia by China. The China Medical Team’s entrance into Liberia forty years ago was commemorated at the event.
About 20 years after the end of the West African country’s civil war, Liberia has struggled to rebuild a trustworthy healthcare system. One significant factor in this is foreign aid, particularly China’s support for the country’s health sector.
Among other things, the donation contained sterilizers, dental radiography, antimicrobials, and clinically used antimalarials.
Through the China-Aid Medical Team Program, China and Liberia have established a strong connection that has allowed them to fight diseases like COVID-19 and Ebola together since 1984.
The China-Aid Medical Team has personified the wonderful qualities of overcoming adversity, being selfless, saving lives, tending to the wounded, and displaying immense affection.
The two governments furthered their relationship in 2022 when they agreed to a new set of protocols for sending the China Medical Team to Liberia (2022–2027).
At the donation, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Yin Chengwu mentioned that President Xi Jinping had declared in his speech on May 18, 2020, that 30 mechanisms for China-Africa paired hospital collaboration will be formed.
According to him, the project’s objectives of conserving medical and nursing skills, raising the standard of cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment, and strengthening the capacity to handle critical and emergency illnesses have all been met.
He said China is still very dedicated to helping Liberia grow its healthcare system in a variety of ways and that they are prepared to work with Liberians to create a future where everyone is well and happy.
The ambassador underlined that the program and other continuing health-related initiatives are proof of the significant and continuously developing medical cooperation between China and Liberia.
The JFK’s Officer in Charge, Dr. Robert Dennis, described the contribution as a gift to Liberia and commended the Chinese government for it. He assured JFK that he would keep collaborating with the Chinese people.
