Monrovia, Liberia –
President George Weah has nominated Justice Minister Cllr. Frank Musa Dean as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. However, the nomination is subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
If confirmed, Cllr. Dean will replace His Honor, Cllr. Joseph N. Nagbe, who resigned as a result of medical reasons.
Two Liberian legal luminaries have been denounced as illegal and out of order: Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe’s early retirement and the nomination of Justice Minister Musa Dean to the Supreme Court bench.
Atty. Maxwell Grisby and Cllr. Bono Varmah countered that Justice Nagbe did not fit the requirements for an early retirement, claiming that the conduct is against judicial law.
In a Monday interview with OK Morning Rush, a local radio program, Liberia Council Member Varmah urged the Liberian Senate to reject Council Member Dean’s candidature on the grounds that the President did not follow the law.
During his speech, Atty. Maxwell Grisby contended that the President’s decision to award an early retirement instead of a resignation is illegal under judicial law.
