Monrovia, Liberia –
A local boxer who is one of four boxers selected to represent Liberia in the upcoming All African Games in Ghana beginning, Friday, March 8, 2024, has promised to put Liberia on the map.
Timothy Williams said he will prove to the outside world that Liberia has great local boxers that are capable of competing in any international competition.
Timothy spoke to this medium on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, during his regular training at the Liberia Boxing Association head office in Monrovia.
He will be joined by a lone female boxer, Grace Fahnbulleh of Canada, and Freddy Kiwit, but the other name is still upheld.
“This is my first time competing in the All African Games, even though I built a brand and participated in an international tournament in Sierra Leone a few years ago. I didn’t see this opportunity coming, especially now, but I can say that the money I earned through hard work has motivated me to go and do well in that tournament.”
The head coach of the Liberia National Boxing team, Arku Kortee, encouraged the Ministry of Youth and Sports to give individual sports a portion of government financing in an interview with Reports231.
Coach Kortee believed it was unfair to other athletes because the government had gradually abandoned individual sports.
Regarding Timothy Williams’ selection among other local athletes, Coach Arku Kortee said that it was decided unanimously and that Williams had demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt to be the best in the nation right now.
