Chinese Embassy in Liberia Celebrates Lunar New Year

Monrovia, Liberia – YIN Chengwu, the Chinese ambassador, reiterated China’s allegiance to the Unity Party administration as the country celebrated the Lunar New Year.

China and Liberia remain significant partners in the region, the Chinese Ambassador Chengwu remarked during the program on February 7, 2024, in Payneaville.

He added that in recent years, with the joint efforts of both sides, the overall development momentum of China-Liberia relations has been maintained and practical cooperation has steadily advanced.

Ambassador Chengwu stated that the Chinese Embassy in Liberia is committed to actively promoting friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Adding that deepening political mutual trust, promoting people-to-people friendship strengthening mutual support.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the people’s Republic of China to Liberia said, Promoting the continuous development of China-Liberia relations and benefiting the people of both countries.

The Chinese New Year is the most important festival in China. It is the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new calendar on the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar.

It is also traditionally a time to honor deities and ancestors, and it has also become a time to feast and visit family members.

In 2023, the 78th United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a resolution officially designating the Lunar New Year as a UN floating holiday.

Speaking on behalf of the government of Liberia, Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung lauded the Chinese government and reaffirmed the Liberian government’s commitment to working with the Chinese government; noting that China and Liberia have a long history.
