Monrovia, Liberia – In order to maintain national unity as the nation moves forward, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia Jeremiah K. Koung has emphasized the necessity of a genuine reconciliation as the country ushers in its second consecutive post-war democratic transition from one Government to another.
Vice President Jeremiah Koung declared that elections are over and that it is now time for reconciliation during his speech on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the opening of the 55th National Legislature and the first regular session of the Honorable Senate.
“Let us embrace a new mindset now that elections are over, eliminate the idea of a Green or Blue Liberia, and give every Liberian the opportunity to contribute his or her quota to nation-building.”
He expressed gratitude for being chosen as Liberia’s vice president and vowed to work tirelessly to make Liberia better in working with his office.
Vice President Koung informed the Senate that since each senator was chosen to represent a county in the Senate, it is incumbent upon them to carry out their mandate in light of the decisions that will be made.
The vice president, however, urged all legislators to act in the best interests of the populace, saying, “The 103 legislators who represent the Liberian people have a unique privilege; we bear the burdens, aspirations, and dreams of our people, and their survival depends on the decisions that we make.” We have to remember that this assignment carries a pressing duty, and none of us can afford to back down from our commitments.”
