Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyumah Boakai along Vice president Jeremiah Koung has conducted a drug test today at the Executive Mansion.
The head of State Joseph Nyumah Boakai along side his Vice President Jeremiah Koung on Wednesday, Febrauary 7, 2024 at the Executive Mansion participate in the drug test exercise and were announced free of drug and substance abuse.
During the 2023 campaign, President Boakai pledged to combat drug addiction and misuse; additionally, in his inaugural State of the Nation address, he declared drugs to be a public health emergency.
President Boakai revealed that he and Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Kung will take the lead in administering a drug test as part of his speech.
After the testing exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of Wellness Partners, Dr. Nicole Cooper, told reporters that President Boakai and Vice President Kung were tested for cocaine, THT, MDMA, and marijuana, among others, and that the results showed negative results.
Making remarks after the results were announced by Dr. Cooper, President Boakai reaffirmed his commitment to the fight against drugs and substance abuse, noting that he will lead by example.
“What we said is exactly what we are going to do. We are serious, and we are ready to lead by example.”
According to the President, despite the challenges, his goal is to see Liberia be respected around the world.
“We want to assure Liberians that despite difficult times, we want Liberia to be respected. All around the world, there are problems. We have to be patient because we can’t even afford a crisis. We are here to do the right thing.”
President Boakai asked people to persevere and join the effort to make Liberia a drug-free state.
“We hope that everybody will subject themselves to this process to make this country drug-free.”
President Boakai urged other public servants to follow his lead in the process of good governance.
The public has been assured by President Boakai that he will reveal his assets at the LACC headquarters in Sinkor tomorrow, February 8, 2024.
