Monrovia, Liberia – Hundreds of Liberian Muslims under the banner “Union of Liberian Muslims” have endorsed incumbent President George M. Weah in the presidential runoff election.
In their petition statement read by an executive of the group Mohamed Bility, the institution said they were endorsing the re-election bid of the Liberian leader due to the many developmental initiatives he has undertaken for the last five and a half years.
Bility told a group of Liberian Muslims over the weekend that their endorsement of the president was unique as he committed the union to campaigning to ensure the President re-election.
“This time I know that with the support of the members of the group and your son Seoku Kalasco Damaro we will do better. We are only going to endorse you, but we will go in the trenches and tell our people why we should vote for you.” Bility said.
He reassured President Weah that a huge majority of the Muslims votes will go in favour of the CDC and thanked the president for the development initiatives his regime has undertaken.
“President you can rest assure with these people here immediately after this commitment statement we will be go all out to tell the people why you should be re-elected.” He noted.
President Weah
Receiving the endorsement statement from the “Union of Liberian Muslims” President George M. Weah lauded them and promised to do more for Islam and ensure an equal society for all Liberia irrespective of religions or tribes.
The Liberian leader who claimed to be a founding member of the All Liberian Coalition Party whose members are predominantly Muslims said the dream of forming ALCOP was not to just give Muslim sense of direction but to make them feel party of the country.
“When we establish ALCOP, the dream and aspiration of Alhaji G.V Kromah and myself as founding member of ALCOP was to make sure that we give you people not just direction but also for you to feel that you’re in your own country too.” President Weah said.
“Today a lot of people do not understand why that party was formed but they want to us that party to cause confusion.”
He called on the Muslim Community to remain united in their quest for freedom, tranquillity, and to own Liberia too and that he has done too much for the Muslim community than those asking for their votes.
“But whatever happened, I want you to remain united in your quest for freedom, tranquillity and to own this land too and this our fight.” The Liberian leader noted.
The Liberian leader told the gathering over the weekend that he cares for the Muslim community and will continue to do more for then when re-elected.
Seoku Kalasco Damaro
Remarking at the gathering, Presidential Adie Seoku Kalasco Damaro said no other Liberian leader has done what President has done for Islam and that members of the community highly appreciates the president.
“I want to use this opportunity to say a very big thank you Mr President for giving us the opportunity to equally participate in the forward march of our country. Mr President, you see these are all of the Imams. There is no one mosque on this Somalia Drive that the Imam is not president here today. It is not because of me it is because of you because who you have done for Islam, the Mandingo and Fula People, no president in the history of Liberia has done it.” He intoned.
He said the community really appreciates the work of President Weah thus leading to the endorsement which saw a very large convergence of Islamic people over the week.
Kalasco said there are elites and big guys within the Muslim community who are fighting him and others based on the opportunities President Weah has given them.
