CDC SG Koijee Calls for Transparency in New Administration

Monrovia, Liberia – Following President Joseph Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung’s inauguration on Monday, January 22, 2024, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, the Secretary General of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has demanded transparency and action.

At a news conference on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Koijee pushed for the opening of a criminal investigation into the fainting and deaths of people at the inaugural ceremony, as well as the release of President Joseph Boakai’s health report.

Apart from President Boakai, it was stated that other individuals suffered from heat exhaustion during the inaugural ceremony, which resulted in the death of Doussen Kamara, a Liberian who was living in the United States and had traveled back to witness the historic occasion.

Koijee conveyed sincere worries for the President’s welfare, stressing that incidents of this nature during an inaugural function could have a detrimental effect on the nation’s standing abroad.

During his address, he called for clarity on the circumstances surrounding the President’s health, noting that the public should not be left in suspense about the President’s condition and that a prompt investigation should be conducted to determine how the incident happened and guarantee that those responsible are held accountable.

Koijee said that an inauguration should not be marred by incidents that could potentially discredit the country and its government in the eyes of the world.
