AS NIMBA KWADO ADVANCES TO SEVENTH SPOT ON LEAGUE TABLE
Monrovia, Liberia – Due to their poor start to the 2023–2024 League Season, many sports fans dismissed Sanniquelie City, Nimba County-based Nimba Kwado FC from contention for the crown, as they always do. After several matches of struggled in the first phase, they became a new journey in phase two with positive results with just two matches of played.
They managed to score four goals for the first time this season against FC Kallon-Liberia on match day 15 at the SKD practice pitch in Paynesville on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Nimba Kwado Captain Josephus Mantor was at his best as he scored two goals with set-pieces at the edge of the 18-yard box, while Alloy Brown and Nyan Dahn scored once each to complete the Kwado 4-2 victory.
After the win, they now sit in seventh place in the standings with 20 points from 16 games, 13 points behind leaders Watanga FC, who have 33 points. At the end of the game, Nimba Kwado coach Jasper Benfleix stated that the team’s victory was noteworthy and that, as a result of a lot of work done behind the scenes, they are currently undergoing change.
Additionally, he stated that the team’s display of readiness to turn things around was evident when they scored four goals in a single game for the first time this season. Coach Benfleix addressed Nimba Kwado’s prospects of winning a trophy, stating that the league is still open and that his team can still have an impact thanks to their increased consistency.
“I have high hope of turning things after a difficult period that saw us living up to inconsistency at some point, but with current form, anything is possible.”

The Kwado coach also showers praise on the team Captain Josephus Mantor describing him as the best player in the local league. He also encouraged the technical team of the national team to see him as one of their priorities.
For his part, FC Kallon-Liberia head coach Emmanuel Kaykay expressed sadness about the performance of match officials during his team’s defeat.
“In Liberia, by the time you start to speak about the ills surrounding football, you become a target instantly.”
“Though we had missed chances, the way the match officials handed the game also played a pivotal role in this defeat. I’m not awfully blaming them, but they have to do more going forward, Coach Kaykay said”.
Highlighting their next match against Heaven Eleven in a city rivalry, he expressed high hope of returning to a winning way.
Meanwhile, there were scores of surprise results in other matches at different venues in the same competition. For example, Bushord Island-based Freeport FC managed a 1-0 win over Bea Mountain, while newly prompted Global Pharma produced a shocking 2-1 win over league-defending champion LISCR FC.
The biggest winners over the weekend are Paynesville FC as they walloped NPA Anchors 6-1, but Heaven Eleven disabused their three goals lead to draw 3-3 with LPRC Oilers as Mighty Barrolle settled to a 1-1 draw with relegation threatens Cece United as league leaders, Watanga FC also settled to a 0-0 draw with another relegation threatens Invincible Eleven.
