GAC and SNAO Complete Conversation Regarding Project Plan Development

Monrovia, Liberia – A one-day symposium was held by the General Auditing Commission and the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO) to discuss the completion of the project plan development for GAC.

In order to ensure that there is audit proof related to the findings and a high-quality basic audit, the project, which is anticipated to conclude in 2026, has given supervisors capacity building training on how to use some of the working papers for the financial audit and compliance audit.

The project is an international cooperation exercise with the Swedish National Audit Office and the General Auditing Commission, with the goal of providing capacity building initiatives worldwide, particularly in third war countries, the Auditor General of GAC, P. Garswe Jackson Sr., revealed in an exclusive interview with reporters.

According to Mr. Njackson, since 2009, SNAO has given GAC chances for capacity building and training. However, this time, the AG plans to expand the scope of these opportunities to include human resource activities where alternative training options are available in addition to the customary audit training.

“I signed a memorandum of intent in the Gambia in 2022 with the Swedish Auditor General, Helena Lindberg, as part of this cooperation. I was invited to Sweden in June of last year together with a delegation of four people, and we had a long conversation about maximizing the GAC’s training options.”

The Auditor General claimed that since June 2022, this delegation from Sweden has visited the GAC five times to undertake various training sessions.

He mentioned that the purpose of the workshop is to complete the programmed document in preparation for the start of all activities for the next two years. The first two groups arrived to conduct Financial Statement Audit Training, and the subsequent two groups performed Performance Audit Training.

AG Jackson Sr. emphasized, however, the GAC’s dedication to seizing any chance given by foreign allies to advance the industry.

“For us at the GAC, we want to make the best use of this opportunity because we know that we can not depend on the government of Liberia to provide all of the resources that we need at the GAC.”

At the end, SNAO’s project manager, Isabelle Berglund, expressed her delight about finishing the project plan and revealed that the upcoming capacity project will be concentrated on two main issues: expanding existing institutional procedures and building new ones.

She further said that after the project is completed, Auditor General Jackson and Mrs. Lindberg would sign the project plan in Uganda at this year’s AFROSAI-E governing board meeting, and they will carry on with the implementation until the project’s completion in 2026.

”The project plan for our upcoming capacity development project has been finalized, and we are extremely thrilled with it. It will focus on two things, as stated in our agreement of understanding: restoring existing capability and developing other institutional processes, such as leadership development, communication, and human resources.”
