China Appreciates President Boakai’s Reaffirmation of One China Policy

Monrovia, Liberia – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s reaffirmation of the One China policy upon taking office has been much appreciated by the People’s Republic of China. ”We highly appreciate the reaffirmation of the one-China policy expressed by the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, upon assuming office.”

President Boakai restated Liberia’s commitment to the One China Policy, which is the People’s Republic of China’s foreign policy stance toward other nations.

In response to the previous government’s stance toward China, President Boakai reaffirmed the closing of the growing worry expressed in certain quarters about the status of the nation’s relationship with China.

Prior to delivering his SONA Address on Monday, January 29, 2024, President Boakai addressed Executive Mansion Reporters and reiterated his steadfast support for the one-China Policy. He also stated that his administration will make every effort to fortify the countries’ ties.
Speaking about China, the President said that it is a trustworthy and strategic ally that has worked well with Liberia, offering significant assistance in many areas of the development agenda for the nation.

“We are committed to the One China Policy, and we have assured the Chinese about our commitment, and this, we do not intend to change.”

Liberia’s development plan has greatly benefited from the People’s Republic of China, primarily in the areas of infrastructure and enhancing young Liberians’ access to education, according to Amb. Boakai.
