Darius Dillon: A national security threat hangs over Liberia

Report By Trokon Freeman_trokonfreeman@gmail.com

A candidate for the Liberian Legislature has said there is a national security threat hanging over Liberia.

Abraham Darius Dillon told a gathering of opposition supporters in Monrovia on Saturday, July 13, that if the proliferation of disadvantaged youths on the streets is not addressed, the current generation will be wiped away.

Mr. Dillon, a candidate for the Liberian Senate however blamed the proliferation to what he terms the lack of vision by President George Weah and his team of inept lieutenants.

Dillon, who is representing the ticket of the Liberty Party in the Senatorial by-election, is equally enjoying endorsement by the Unity Party, All Liberian Party and the Alternative National Congress.

He said one of the reasons he’s contesting the poll is to work along with other members of the Liberian Senate to institute programs to develop the skills of disadvantaged youths as a way of subverting the national security threat.

A national security threat is hanging over this Country. If we don’t take time, this whole generation of citizens will be wiped away with no capacity. And this is because President George Weah and his team of inept lieutenants have no vision.

President Weah has been rallying supporters of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change to reject Dillon’s candidature, owing to what he calls the opposition candidate’s limited academic standing.

In response to this claim, the Montserrado Senatorial hopeful said President Weah is a contradiction to himself.

Even though the president said he is unfit to lead owing to poor academic standing, Dillon told his supporters that President Weah went ahead to appoint unqualified people to positions in government.

He named Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, Assistant Ministers Alvin Wesseh and Mamensie Kaba as some unqualified Liberians working under the CDC-led government.

UREY

Speaking earlier, the head of the four opposition collaborating parties Benoni Urey said the huge attendance at the Unity Party headquarters in Congo Town demonstrates that no one person owns Montserrado County.

What you have shown today is that no one person owns Montserrado County. I stand here today to tell you this election is neither about Darius Dillon nor Telia Urey, but it is about all of us.

We must ensure that these two people win the By-elections.
