Prisoners at Sanniquellie Prison go Disgruntle

PREVENT AUTHORITIES FROM ADMITTING ADDITIONAL INDIVIDUALS, OVER LACK OF BASIC SOCIAL SERVICES

Sanniquellie, Nimba County – Over two hundred prisoners, including pre-trial detainees began a protest action at the Sanniquelle Prison in Nimba County on Tuesday, demanding regular daily meal, better prison environment and good treatment for inmates at the facility.

They claimed that the Weah’s administration failed to provide food for the prison while inmates had no conducive environment. The Sanniquellie prison facility was a quick-impact project constructed by the United Nations Mission in Liberia with a capacity of 75 inmates.

According to our Nimba County correspondent, the facility currently hosts over 100 prisoners. Basic necessities have been the subject of complaints to many prisons across the country, notably the Sanniquelle Prison in Nimba County.

The capacity of the High Court to transfer new inmates to the Monrovia Central Prison was recently halted by the prison administration due to similar allegations.
