Monrovia – Liberian striker Patrick ‘Ronaldinho’ Wleh has joined Egyptian premier league club, Petrojet Sporting Club, on a free transfer two-year deal.
The 26-year-old passed a medical at the club’s home ground multi-purpose Stadium Suez Stadium 27,000 capacity ground on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
Wleh now becomes Tarek Yehia’s fourth foreign player to join the club following their arrival of Ghanaian forward Shaibu Yakubu; Ethiopian midfielder Shimelis Bekele and Nigerian striker James Owoboskini.
The Liberian forward, who was recently in the media for a sex tape expressed his delight in making the move after a difficult time.
“I am happy to announce that I’ve signed a two-year deal with Egyptian Premier League cup Petrojet Sporting Club. I’m excited for the move and can’t wait to start a new chapter with the Blaugrana. Special thanks to my agent and all those that stood with me,” he said.
“It goes without saying that I cannot wait to work with my new teammates. They are fantastic and I am ready for this new and exciting challenge.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my career so far and have some great memories. I am now ready to create more special memories in Egypt.”
Patrick scored a total 73 goal for three clubs in Malaysia from 2012 to 2017.
The club’s coach, Tarek Yehia, said “Patrick needs no introduction. The statistics speak for themselves. He is one of the best strikers in Malaysia for years and a player who always gives 100 percent.
“He has scored against one of the best clubs in Europe Liverpool in a friendly in 2015; now he has the opportunity to play in the best league in Africa and I know he will grasp this opportunity and will work hard to help the team win titles.”
The former PKNS striker wrote on his official Facebook page on November 1, 2017, following the end of the Malaysian league
“Another journey has come to an end. Thanks to everyone that supported me and my team throughout the 2017 season. It was truly incredible with the support of the staffs and my team-mates. Also, the beautiful fans of PKNS FC that stood by us through the stormy weather. You guys were amazing. You never gave up! You never surrendered! Together!! we are stronger!”
Patrick also posted on his social media page on November 14, 2017, thanking the club for the seasons he spent with them.
“I would like to publicly say a big thanks to PKNS FC for giving me the opportunity to explore my talent in Malaysian football. Since 2013, I joined the club from Sime Darby, I have experienced a different level of football. Four years with this club, all I can say is “Thank You”. Playing for PKNS was an opportunity I wished for, and I enjoyed every time with this club. PKNS wasn’t just a football team to me, but a real family in which I found love. Thanks to the staffs, the administrators and also the fans that believed in my abilities. I wish the club a better luck in the next years to come and hope to be part of this club history again. As long as I live, there will always be a special place in my heart for the Red Ants. The name PKNS F.C. will forever be written in my heart.”
