MONROVIA: Liberia’s Chief Justice Francis Korkpor has reechoed that the Supreme Court of Liberia remains neutral in making determinations into matters brought before it for interpretation.

Chief Justice Korkpor said the Court will not be used as a political institution in the country.
According to him, the court will seek to protect the freedom and Liberty of the state regardless of status, creed or religious backgrounds among others.
The Liberian Chief Justice stated on Monday, October 8, in his speech at thee opening of the October term of the supreme court that the Supreme Court will take drastic action against lawyers breaching the ethics of the profession.
He furthered frown at Liberian legislature attempt to setup a Judicial oversight committee which when established, will give some responsibilities to lawmakers over the Judicial system of the Country.
“We have heard a call or proposal for the establishment of a Judicial Oversight Committee within the Legislature. What surprises me is that the call is being made from an unlikely source. We shall say more on this at the appropriate time not in the too distant future,” said Chief Justice Korkpor.
Chief Justice Francis Korkpor however called on lawyers as well as those recently admitted into the bar to uphold the tenets of good legal profession.
“We need to do more in spite of the many gains we have made. However, our desire to undertake more reform programs is seriously hampered by the lack of adequate budgetary support.”
The official opening of the October term of court was fully attended by President George Manneh Weah, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, President Pro-Tempore Albert Chie and House Speaker Bhofal Chambers- including other eminent citizens of the Country.
