Liberian Student studying in Morocco thrown out of his apartment for failing to settle rental

Monrovia- A Liberian student studying Morocco on the Liberian Government’s Scholarship was on Wednesday morning thrown out of his apartment as a result of his in ability to settle his rental.

Student Jonah Coleman’s situation which was captured live on facebook sparked widespread public reactions on social media on Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

Student Coleman speaking to this station from Morocco attributed the problem to the alleged failure of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to settle their allowance for the past eight months.

“For the past eight moths we  have been neglected by the Liberian and have not received our allowances and as i speak to you, my landlord  asked me to leave his apartment this morning because my rental has expired and I don’t have money to extend the rent.We are about 36 Liberian students here face with similar problems and the Liberian Government can not do any thing about it, we are suffering. We need urgent help,” Jonah Said.

According to Coleman, an additional 35 Liberian students on the government’s scholarship are currently undergoing difficulties and similar humiliation.

He said their continued engagement with the Ministry of Finance on the payment of their allowances has not materialized.

Jonah Coleman however called on President George Weah to urgently intervene into their situations.

Recently, Education Minister Ansu Sonii admonished the students to exercise patience as government was doing all it can to get their allowances paid.

The last time this station spoke with the Comptroller General at the Ministry of Finance, Janga Kowo, he denied receiving any allotment form the Ministry of Education.
