MONROVIA: OK FM has established that members of the House of Representatives are now soliciting signatures to remove Representatives Thomas Fallah and Jeremiah Koung as chairman and Co-chairman of the committee on Ways, Means and Finance, for allegedly embezzling money intended the houses extra sitting.
Multiple sources confirmed to OK Fm that the decision to remove representatives Thomas Fallah and Jeremiah Koung was reached on Wednesday, September 11, during an executive session.
The sources revealed that a two page resolution was crafted by Montserrado County district #17 representatives Hanson Kiezolu with support from other lawmakers including Representatives Abu Kamara, Dixon Seboe.
Their two pages document is under the caption ” Resolution Mandating the speaker and Deputy speaker to ensure the reprimanding and restructuring of the committee on Ways means and Finance of the lower house.
According to sources, members of the House of Representatives are angry over Representative Fallah’s refusal to distribute nine thousand United States dollars each to lawmakers for the extra sitting that is currently ongoing at the Legislature.
Our sources added that Representative Fallah allegedly received the amount from President George Weah to be distributed on the lawmakers, but the Montserrado District 5 lawmaker only distributed five thousand USD to each of the lawmakers.
It remains unclear what did Representative Fallah do with the balance money in question, but our sources disclosed that some members of the House are accusing the Ways, means and Finance Chairman of embezzlement.
According to the resolution which is in possession of this station, the lawmakers said according to their rules, each lawmaker should receive equal amount of their monthly salaries whenever they are called for extra sitting as compared to the Senate.
In another development, President George Weah has written the plenary of the House of Representatives, seeking permission to print new currency in the tune of thirty-five Billion Liberian dollars.
The president’s request was contained in a communication presented to the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
President Weah’s communication comes as a result of consensus document adopted by stakeholders at the recent national Economic dialogue held in Congo town, which among other things, calls for the printing of new currency aimed at resuscitating the Liberian economy.
