AU ambassador Ibrahim Karama recommends passage of Land rights acts in Liberia

Monrovia-The African Union Special representative to Liberia, Ibrahim Karama has urged both Houses of the Liberian legislature to kindly pass into law, the land rights and local government acts.

Ambassador Karama said following the 2017 presidential elections in Liberia, the country has maintained the trajectory to peace, good governance and Development.

He Spoke, when he paid a courtesy visit to the speaker of the House of Representatives Wednesday.

According to him, the African Union has been working with Liberia and Development partners in solidifying the country’s development efforts, since its mandate was extended in 2017.

A release from the Speaker’s office quotes Ambassador Ibrahim Karama as saying the AU will solicit proposals from public sector institutions for onward transmission to the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, for possible efforts to source funding in helping to mitigate some challenges faced by Government.

The special representative of the African Union Chairperson to Liberia also disclosed that as part of good working relationship with the Country, the AU recently made available two generators to the ministry of Health for its power use.
During the meeting, Speaker Bhofal Chembers expressed gratitude to the AU envoy for the visit, stating, it is time African Countries work towards improving the living condition of their people.

While cautioning African countries to embark on modules of development approach in a prompt concept, speaker Chembers also frowned on some practices from foreign nations condemning some African cultural activities.

The Liberian speaker mentioned the issue of female genital circumcision as an African cultural practice that should be respected, but with the consent of an individual attaining constitutional age or at twenty one.
In closing, the speaker encouraged the African Union envoy to continue such visitation, to smoothen the cordial relationship between their offices.
