The peaceful protesters accompanied by some victims who suffered disabilities due to the country’s civil conflict, were seen parading in front of the US Embassy near Monrovia and also on the principal streets of Monrovia.
Speaking to reporters, a member of the protesting group, Adama Dempster indicated that their intent was to seek justice for crimes perpetrated during the heat of the civil war in Liberia.
According to Dempster, most of the people who committed war and economic crimes are now serving the Liberian government in top ministerial positions.
He mentioned there is a need to seek justice for the over 250,000 people who got killed during the war.
“Basically we want Justice for past crimes. We think that after the civil conflict, Liberians have not seen Justice and most of the people who committed these atrocities are the most powerful people in Liberia.
And we thought that having them stay continue to rule us, there is no hope for the victim community. No matter what the case is, until they are brought to Justice, this campaign will not end, he said”
Dempster further mentioned that most of the victims are living in hopelessness and at such the international partners must prevail on the government to accept the establishment of war and economic crime court in Liberia.
The protesters were among an estimated 4,000 Liberians who gathered early Monday morning to memorialize the deaths of 250,000 thousand people who died during the Liberian civil war.
They included victims of the war and others who lost their family members, relatives among other personalities in the deadleast 14 years civil crisis in this tiny Country Liberia.
