House’s Committee on Claims and Petition to present resolution seeking the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court

The Co-Chair of the Independent Legislative Caucus of the House of Representatives, Madam Rosterlyn Dennis says the committee on “Claims and Petition” has resolved to present a resolution to the Liberian government to fully implement recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Reports for the establishment of War and Economic crimes court in the Country.

Representative Dennis said people who are reported to have committed hideous crimes against the state have to give reasons in a court of competent jurisdiction for their actions.

According to Representative Dennis, the government will succeed in attracting more investors in the country if the people who are reportedly responsible for the setback of the Country are to be interrogated to show cause for their actions.

Why are we so wicked to ourselves? People committed atrocities; they killed other people, why can’t they go to court?

Having the War crimes court does not mean those suspected will be jailed illegally, they need to go and vindicate themselves.

How can Liberia be kicking against Justice than you want investment? There’s no one who would want to invest in a country that does not support Justice.

Meanwhile, the Montserrado district four Representative has decried the manner in which House Speaker Dr. Bhofal Chambers is proceeding with the business of that august body.

Appearing on the OK Morning Rush Monday, June 17, 2019, Representative Dennis said the leadership of Speaker Chambers is working to appease the presidency, contrary to the true intent of that first branch of government.

She said the three branches of government were formulated with separate mandates and functions in order to ensure checks and balances, but Speaker Chambers and his likes have grossly swayed away from the function of the legislature to please the President.

According to Representative Dennis, the responsibility of the legislature to provide oversight over the workings of the Executive branch has been difficult at the Lower House due to the constant habit of Speaker Chambers denying communications from members of that body to cite some government officials who may not be working in the interest of the public.

Since his election as speaker of the 54th national legislature, Dr. Bhofal Chambers has been under numerous criticisms from his colleagues, especially members of the Independent Legislative Caucus, and including some CDC.

Representative Chambers was a staunch critics of the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s administration during his days as members of the 53th legislature, before being re-elected by marylanders in the 2017 Presidential and Representatives elections.
