Monrovia City Court Sentences Business man James Cooper to one year imprisonment for life threatening Comments

Monrovia: A city Court Judge Kennedy Peabody has sentenced a Liberian Businessman and former Security guard James Cooper accused of threatening Bomi County Senator Sando Johnson guilty.

The two men have been a year prison sentence each.

On July thirty, a Writ of arrest was issued against Defendant Cooper on Charges of Malevolence and menacing.

During the hearing, Senator Johnson produced three witnesses who testified that on June 4, 2018, Senator Johnson and some Family members received several life threatening text messages from Defendant Cooper.

One of the witnesses Johnetta Stewart who testified for the Bomi County Senator, told the Court that defendant Cooper got annoyed when Senator Johnson appeared on a local Radio show and said that those who had already received stimulus package, including the defendant and refused to pay should not be given additional Loans.

According to witness Stewart, Senator Johnson also mentioned that the above individuals should be investigated before receiving any anymore Loans.

The witness further noted that from that talk show, the defendant had been sending text messages to her which she had been forwarding to Senator Johnson, informing him of the fear for her life.

It is said Defendant Cooper is a former Police officer and had been carrying gun.

Meanwhile, Defense Lawyer Demptser Brown said the magistrate made an error in his ruling.

Counselor Brown noted that in any criminal proceeding, there are elements that constitute guilt.

He said in the Writ of arrest and the Testimonies provided by the witness did not corroborate.

The Lawyer said his client will take an appeal to an upper court to challenge the Judge’s ruling.
