Autopsy conducted on Odell Sherman’s body as family members demand the cause of death

Report by Arthur Beare_arthurfbeare@gmail.com

Following months of disagreement between family members of the late Odell Sherman and government of Liberia on credential issue of a recognized and licensed pathologist, approved pathologist Roger A. Mitchell has finally conducted the autopsy.

According to our reporter who witnessed the process, the chief medical Examiner of Washington, D C, Roger A. Mitchell arrived in the country late Monday evening and carried out preliminary observation on the body of the late Odell Sherman.

Though family members recently complained of government’s delay in approving their recommended Pathologist Roger A. Mitchell through a communication to government on his credentials, noted that government was communicating unknowingly to the pathologist and the family was abruptly informed about his arrival in the country.

Pathologist Roger A. Mitchell profile indicates that he has conducted about one thousand four hundred autopsies and certified in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Tuesday, August 13 Autopsy process was witnessed by family members being represented by late Odell Sherman’s father, Alphonso Sherman, Journalists, Civil Society, and representatives of the Liberia Council of Churches as many including family members and the public awaits the final report to establish the cause of death.

It may be recalled that late Odell Sherman, a senior high school student of the Harriett Bailey United Methodist School lifeless body was discovered at the home of Reverend Emmanuel Giddings in Duazohn, Margibi County during the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 22, 2019, after the completion of her West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

She was later pronounced dead shortly after doctors at the ELWA Hospital, where she was rushed and examined. But the hospital issued three separate medical reports on Odell, in one of which they gave the deceased the wrong name.
