Former defense Minister Samuka indicted for acts of corruption

MONROVIA: The Sayeh and Sayeh Law office has secured a Property bond of Two Million, Six Hundred Eleven Thousand, Seven United States Dollar- Fifty cent for former Defense Minister Brownie Samukai who was arrested on account alleged corruption.

Mr. Samukai and one of his deputies Joseph Johnson were arrested on Friday after the issuance of a Writ on October 11, 2019 by criminal court “C”.

The Defendants were escorted by their Counsellors in Criminal Court C to file a Criminal appearance Bond.

The Indictment against the defendants  states that in July 2009, Former Minister opened a pension account at Acco Bank for the soul purpose of reductions  in AFL personals salaries to provided benefits to wounded AFL soldiers and to families of dead Soldiers, and to also supplement pension packages for the Soldiers who retired from service. 

The indictment spelt out that during the establishment of said account, the three indicted officials of the AFL were the only signatories to the Account and no persons from the AFL were signatory.

Between July 2009 to 2017, an amount of One Million, Nine Hundred Forty Three thousands, Nine Hundred Seventy Nine Dollars Ninty, Nine  cents were deposited in said account.

The indictment furthered that Minister Samukai and his two principle deputies allegedly withdrew an amount of One Million Two Hundred and fifty Nine Thousands, four hundred sixty Two  United States Dollars  from said account and transferred to their personnel accounts or used.
