MONROVIA: The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has arrested a man for attempting to post thousands of suspected marijuana seeds through the post office in Monrovia.

Making the disclosure to OK FM Wednesday, July 17, the Director for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Caesar Slapeh said suspect Juaz King was arrested Tuesday by the Bureau of Inspectorate while attempting to carry on the act.

According to Mr. Slapeh, Suspect King told the ministry‘s investigative team that he was sending the marijuana seeds to his relative in the United States of America for medical purpose.

Director Slapeh noted that the action of the suspect violates the law of Liberia and Article 19 of the Universal Postal Union Convention.

You know normally the Ministry is guided by the principle of law and that also include the Universal Postal Union which states that when you bring a parcel to the post office, it has to be open for everybody to see what is in it; that is why we have the bureau of inspectorate.

They don’t allow illegal things to be posted. Even though he proceeded with so many items, he wrapped it up with clothes so that people will not notice what he was carrying.

But the Post Guide at the post office who usually unveil these things, saw it and immediately reported to police assigned at the post office, and Juaz was arrested and taken to the National Police headquarters for questioning.

Many of our customers are aware of items we allow at the post office. So, people who intend to do it clandestine way, the law will take its course.

Meanwhile the Liberian National Police is yet to provide update regarding the ongoing investigation involving Juaz King.
