Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor has broken ground for the construction of an Oil Processing refinery plant in the country.
The proposed Oil Processing Refinery Plant is owed by CONEX Group of Company.
Speaking Tuesday during the ground breaking ceremony, Vice president Howard-Tayflor said the construction of the Oil Processing facility is a remarkable history for Liberia stating that it’s welcoming for Liberia to break years of history when the country produced 10,000 barrows a day since 30 years ago.
The Vice President, who served as a proxy for President George Weah, challenged Liberian Oil Company CONEX Group to train and develop citizens in providing more opportunities.
Liberia is our country of history making, and is not just an ordinary plant, because normally we will be doing this for selling company. CONEX has been a part of the Liberian Business consistently; it is no surprise that they continue to expand in the different sectors.
But the CONEX story must be told over and over because that is the story we want to hear about how Liberians, in spite of the difficulties can actually build from something.
This is a Business Company contributing to the Liberian economy, including the empowerment of ordinary Liberians.
CONEX Group is a Liberian own petroleum company which includes a joint partnership with Africa Finance Corporation, GEMCORP Capital, Montserrado Investments, Saga Global Partners amongst others.
For his part, the Chairman and CEO of CONEX Group Cherif Abdallah said, the ground breaking ceremony is a fulfillment to the commencement phase II of the project, noting that phase I which has been completed accounted for the renovation, construction and commissioning of the Conex Petroleum Storage Terminal in 2016.
Abdallah noted upon completion of phase II of the project it will add value to Liberia and ensure the country’s strategic reserve and savings on the flight of foreign exchange from the country.
Let me note that when CONEX took over this property from the Government of Liberia, it was an oil field on approximately five acres of land with only two dilapidated tanks.
The World Bank and other International and local organizations felt that the rehabilitation of this facility was a funding part. Look at us today, we making a difference.
The Chairman and CEO of CONEX Group added that the Oil Processing refinery plant will create additional revenue through royalties to LPRC, taxes to the government and community development projects, assuring that it will ensure petroleum product sufficiency and job creation.
