Former President Sirleaf officially receives Mo Ibrahim Award 2017

Monrovia-Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has officially been announced recipient of the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership for 2017.

The former Liberian Leader was given the award at a prestigious ceremony which brought together top African leaders in Kigali, Rwanda.

The former President is the fifth recipient of the award with cash prize of 5 million United States Dollars.

According to the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf won the award for her exceptional and transformative leadership in governing her country, Liberia.

Receiving the award during the weekend in Kigali, Rwanda, the former Liberian Chief Executive dedicated her award to women and men who helped to navigate the profound complexities of the fourteen years of civil unrest in Liberia.

Johnson Sirleaf however promised to establish the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development that will be designed to support women as agents of change, makers of peace, and drivers of progress.
